B is for Broadway!

May 7, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi all,

Wow what a week! I need to start writing these blogs on Sundays and saving them. I don’t have time to blog anymore. But anyway, here is the letter B of the A to Z challenge. My favorite thing next to writing: BROADWAY!!!! I could live on Broadway and go see shows for days on end. Especially Wicked. But I’m not going to post a trailer for Wicked or songs from my favorite actress/singer Idina Menzel (though I do encourage you to look her up, she’s INCREDIBLE) No, today I am going to post a trailer for the new hit show Smash. Next to Glee (you all know how much I adore Glee) it’s my favorite but unlike Glee, Smash is centered around Broadway and the making of a musical. So without further ado–here is Smash!

A to Z Challenge: All Fall Down

April 25, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi all,

So taking a little break from the editing cave to blog!! Go me! I follow a lot of authors and their blogs and a lot of them have been doing the A to Z challenge. So, I thought I’d give it a go. Here is A– a review of the book All Fall Down.

Summery: *taken from Amazon*

In the midst of a chaotic midnight assembly, Sunshine is forced outside into the darkness. Holding a scrap of paper scrawled with a stranger’s name and address, Sunny grasps the hands of her three small children and begins her escape.

Liesel Albright has dreamed of starting a family. She never bargained on inheriting one already in progress…or one so deeply damaged. When nineteen-year-old Sunshine appears on the Albrights’ doorstep claiming Liesel’s husband, Chris, is her father, all they can think to offer is temporary shelter. The next day, they’re stunned by the news that the Family of Superior Bliss, led by a charismatic zealot, has committed mass suicide. Sunny and her children haven’t just left the compound—they’ve been left behind.

Now, instead of a baby of her own, Liesel must play mother to the four survivors, while Chris retreats into guilt and denial. For Sunny, however, a lifetime of teachings is not easily unlearned. No matter how hard she tries to forget, an ominous catechism echoes in her mind, urging her to finish what the Family started.

My review:

First off, I have to say that this book was incredible! I absolutely loved it! The plot was simple yet held so much meaning and passion. I loved Sunny and how she had to adjust to life outside of commune and also the journey of Liesel. Both characters had depth, and a solid emotional journey. The writing was superb, adding to the awesomeness of the story. All in all, I give this book five stars. Everyone should check out this book. Definitely worth a read!

Editing Cave!

April 23, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi all,

I know, I know it’s been almost two months since I have updated. One reason: editing cave. I have been busy editing, volunteering at two libraries, job searching and this past weekend I went to see Jeremy Camp in concert. Busy, busy busy! But I am half way through with edits so I have more time to devote to the blog. I was also–if I can be honest–lost at what to post. But I have been reading some blogs of fellow authors and they have given me inspiration. Starting tomorrow I will start posting reviews of the books I’ve been reading. There are a lot. I also want to post things that I learned in my online writing class. That class changed my writing and how I go about structuring a novel. I also have been–like I mentioned above–been reading some great blogs by some authors and have learned a great deal through them.

So I know this blog isn’t very exciting but tomorrow will start the book reviews. I am also going to set up my author Facebook page and re-vamp my website in the coming weeks. But now it is back to the editing cave. I want this book to shine and sparkle with perfection–well as much as it can. Until tomorrow, my pretties.

Monday Music: Idina Menzel

March 5, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi all,

So I know Tuesday is Tuesday tunes but since this week my favorite artist Idina Menzel’s new CD releases as well as her PBS special I thought I’d take this week and post songs everyday from this amazing performer! If you don’t know Idina Menzel originated the role of Maureen  Johnson is RENT and the Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba in Wicked. She is currently appearing on several TV shows such as Ellen and The Talk and will be returning to Glee as Shelby Corocran Rachel’s (played by Lea Michele) birth mom. Now, let’s take a look at her PBS concert special. Here is Idina performing Poker Face, which she performed with Lea Michele on Glee in season one.

Real or Fiction–do people know what that is anymore?

March 2, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi everyone,

Okay so I know I said a blog would be up Wednesday but i have been in the editing cave all week, trying to get a lot done while I have these two weeks off from my normal schedule. My story is shaping up really nicely, especially since I started taking this online writing class but that’s not what this blog is about.

Okay so I don’t know how many of you have heard of the site fanfiction.net. If you haven’t here’s a quick run down: its a site for people to post stories using characters from TV shows such as Glee or Revenge or their favorite book or musical. It’s a way for people who want to write but aren’t ready to venture into the original story arc. It’s a great outlet and at night I love reading stories on there. It’s a great way to relax.

But with a site like that comes issues and I’m not talking about horrible writing I’m talking about using real people–real LIVE people–for stories. I’ll use Glee as an example since it’s worse in that section than any other (that I’ve seen so far)  There are at least fifty stories on this site dealing with the real cast of Glee, especially centering around the main character Rachel and her boyfriend Finn. People are using the real lives of the real actors and saying how the real people playing Finn and Rachel are dating when in fact they are not. Another popular fandom is how Quinn and Rachel are together, when in fact on the show they are not. But not only that, people are writing stories about the real people who play Rachel and Quinn and writing about how they are really together when in fact they are not. This is against the rules of fanfiction.net. For those of you who don’t know the rules here they are:

Entries not allowed:

  1. Non-stories: lists, bloopers, polls, previews, challenges, author notes, and etc.
  2. One or two liners.
  3. MST: comments inserted in between the flow of a copied story.
  4. Stories with non-historical and non-fictional characters: actors, musicians, and etc.
  5. Any form of interactive entry: choose your adventure, second person/you based, Q&As, and etc.
  6. Chat/script format and keyboard dialogue based entries.

The rule in bold is  the point of this blog.  Sure I’m all for writing about historical people–writing a novel about  Joan of Arc–but to make up stuff about the real lives of people and put it on the Internet for everyone to see is not okay. What if the actors saw these stories? I can’t speak for them but I know if it were me I’d be horrified.

So please think before you post a story on ff.net or anywhere else, ESPECIALLY if its dealing with real people, like the Glee cast for example. They have enough worries with the media making up stuff about their lives they don’t need their fans dong it too. For those who use fanfiction.net please be mindful of the rules above and thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this. I promise next week will be a more exciting post!

Monday Musings

February 27, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi all,

So it’s been a while. I know, I know. I say I’m going to update this thing everyday but I never do. I am in the editing phase on my novel right now, taking out two of the POV’s and tweaking the chapters so its one POV. Anyway, since it’s Monday I wanted to share a dream I had last night. Basically I pulled a Stephanie Mayer (she had a dream, chapter thirteen of Twilight, that would become the best selling books). The dream was so vivid I can still see it in my  head. I dreamed that one of my characters was a teacher and I myself was in her office playing with her kids. Not very exciting but it could work into something. I’m not even sure where this dream came from but I’d like to use it in a story somehow. Who knows, said story could become the next Twilight.

Any of you ever have a dream like that? I’d love to hear them!

Tomorrow look for Tuesday Tunes!

Musical Monday

February 13, 2012 1 comment

Hi all,

I just can’t keep up this blog everyday. But it is musical Monday and today I thought I’d do a song that is on all of our hearts right now after the tragic death of Whitney Houston. Believe it or not, Glee will be featuring I Will Always Love you on Tuesdays episode, though it was planned way before this happened. So here is Glee’s version (sung by Amber Riley who plays Mercades) of I Will Always Love you.
